Shooting and SWAT deployment in Mandan in connection with apparent suicide

According to police, the shots fired in northwest Mandan on Monday evening appear to be related to a suicide.

At approximately 8:40 p.m., officers responded to a residence on Paulsen Drive Northwest to check on the welfare of the residents. Officers heard gunshots, set up a perimeter, and used a drone to determine that there was a person in the backyard with a weapon. The West Dakota SWAT team was called to the scene.

Police and SWAT officers attempted to make contact with the person for several hours before finding him dead. The perpetrator had apparently sustained a gunshot wound to himself, according to the police department. The person's identity has not been determined.
