Jets' Mike Williams 'feels good' after getting more playing time against Titans

Mike Williams hopes to continue making personal progress when the Jets face the Patriots in their first home game at MetLife Stadium on Thursday night.

The ninth-year wide receiver was on the field for 35 snaps against the Titans, more than he originally planned (20 to 25).

He made a promising 19-yard catch – on his only target – on the Jets' game-winning drive, which ended with a rushing touchdown by rookie Braelon Allen.

“It was a little bit above the range we expected, but I felt good. I'm not going to say give up on the game,” Williams told The Post on Tuesday. “I mean, I want to play, so I'm hoping the same thing happens in this game and then I'll go out and play.”

The Jets wanted to play cautiously with Williams from the start after he tore his ACL with the Chargers at the start of the 2023 season.

They kept their word and gave him only nine snaps in the season opener against the 49ers.

The team is aware of Williams' eagerness, but a snap target for Thursday has not yet been announced.

“He feels good. That was one of the first questions we asked him. [Monday],” said Robert Saleh. “He feels really good … and he wants more and his body feels good, so we're going to keep giving him the ball.”

After the trip and the increased number of snaps, Williams said he expected to feel worse, but was pleasantly surprised not to experience any swelling on the plane, saying, “Everything feels good.”

“There's a lot less stress on the legs. There's more runs and stuff,” he said of adjusting to the short week. “So you just have to watch the film and do the mental reps on that point. But as far as the body goes, if you have a process and a plan that you stick to, you'll feel good all season long.”

Williams, who was brought in to complement Garrett Wilson, was a key receiver for the Chargers.

In seven seasons in San Diego, he recorded two 1,000-yard seasons, including the last time he played every game of the season in 2021.
