Trailer for his new action film looks like it has been seen a thousand times

There is a first trailer for Liam Neeson's next action film “Absolution”. But that's all the good news.

It can no longer be overlooked: Liam Neeson has followed the path of Charles Bronson. And it is irreversible. Just like Bronson, whose action career only really took off at the age of 53 with “The Man Sees Red”, Neeson unexpectedly became an action hero at the age of 55 with “Taken”. Bronson could not shake off the role of the old angry man and embodied it ad nauseam in numerous direct-to-video productions. Some would like to say that he still makes them in a reincarnated form as Robert Bronzi. The same fate is obviously in store for Neeson, as the first trailer for his next action drama “Absolution” .

With all of this, you can't help but suspect that these somewhat sloppy-looking action B-movies are only being made for the money. Man, Neeson didn't even bother to change his outfit from “Saints and Sinners”. He quickly grabbed Jack Gleeson's moustache and headed to the “Absolution” set. The trailer for this film seems just as generic. Perhaps it's just been edited according to a formula. Nevertheless, although what is shown seems to be technically well-crafted, it certainly doesn't arouse the curiosity of a potential audience. At most, fans of the 72-year-old might still feel something like anticipation.

“Absolution”: Action grandpa Liam Neeson is old and angry

An alternative gangster (Liam Neeson) is sad about his miserable existence. So he tries to get in touch with his daughter (Frankie Shaw) and his grandson. But the sins of his past cannot be undone this way. His late realization and remorse come too late. In order to finally do something right in his life, he has to shed a lot of blood.

The Irish Neeson has already made the revenge thriller “Hard Powder” with Norwegian filmmaker Hans Petter Moland. This was a remake of Moland's “One by One” with Stellan Skarsgård and Bruno Ganz in the Colonels. The original was clearly the better film here, the remake lost a lot of the original appeal, which was primarily created by the stars of the original. This somewhat diminishes the hope of an entertaining film in their second collaboration.

Alongside Neeson in “Absolution” is Ron Perlman, another action luminary from the B sector. Other roles include Frankie Shaw, Daniel Diemer, Yolonda Ross, William Xifaras and Omar Moustafa Ghonim. “Absolution” opened in the USA 1 November 2024 in cinemas. It is not yet known when and if it will be released in this country. The action drama could also be a candidate for streaming, for example on Amazon.
