Macomb County jurors say they deadlocked in Sterling Heights murder case – Macomb Daily

A Macomb County jury was read standoff instructions Thursday after the panel told a judge it was unable to reach a verdict in a Sterling Heights murder case.

The jury, consisting of four men and eight women, said in a statement late in the morning: “We are deadlocked in our decision,” after about nine hours of deliberations over two days in the case of 51-year-old Zachary Holston. He is accused of shooting his sister Rita Evans (54) in the parking lot of their family business and thus committing premeditated murder.

The jury began deliberations Wednesday morning after the five-day trial concluded late Tuesday afternoon in Macomb County District Court in Mount Clemens.
