MAPLE GROVE, Minn. – A woman died in a house fire in Maple Grove late Wednesday evening.

According to the city fire department, emergency crews were called to a house fire in the 10600 block of Lancaster Lane North around 9:30 p.m. Neighbors reported the fire.

When firefighters arrived, they noticed both smoke and flames coming from the house. Due to the heat and smoke, they were initially unable to enter the house.

Officials said the body of a deceased elderly woman was later found in the house after the fire was under control.

According to fire department information, preliminary information indicates that the fire originated in the kitchen area. The cause of the fire is still being investigated.

Officials said there were working smoke detectors in the home.
