Delhi police question building owners and record witness statements

New Delhi [India]September 19 (ANI): Delhi Police on Thursday said it has questioned the building owner and recorded statements of some witnesses regarding the tragic building collapse in Karol Bagh that left nearly half a dozen people dead and many injured.

According to police, a forensic examination was also carried out at the scene and a report of the Delhi Municipal Corporation in Karol Bagh regarding the investigation of dangerous buildings was seized.

“Further investigations are underway,” Delhi Police said.

Meanwhile, Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee chairman Devender Yadav said on Thursday that no government or administrative representative had arrived at the spot so far and that cracks had also appeared in other houses nearby.

Yadav said, “Five people have died in the accident so far. No one from the government or administration has reached here yet. The debris is still lying around as it was yesterday… There is a possibility that people are trapped in it. The administration must take note of this. People here say that three people are still missing.” On Wednesday, Atishi, Delhi's chief minister-designate and leader of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), announced a compensation of Rs 1 million to the affected families of the accident.

The Delhi minister also met the injured and families of the deceased at RML Hospital in the evening and promised financial assistance. He said legal action would be initiated against the building owner.

Delhi BJP spokesperson Praveen Shankar Kapoor said the Delhi Municipal Corporation should pay a compensation of Rs 10 crore to the people who died in the collapse of the building in Bapa Nagar in Karol Bagh. He also said that Rs 500,000 should be paid to the people who were injured in the incident. (ANI)
