iOS 18 update with Siri integration, new Apple Watch app and more

We have already reported several times in the past about the weather and rain radar app Rain Viewer (App Store link). The application focuses primarily on precipitation information and maps for the whole world, but also offers southern and daily weather forecasts as well as information on sunrise and sunset, air quality, severe weather warnings and more.

To coincide with the release of iOS 18, Rain Viewer has also received a major update that upgrades the application for iPhones, iPads and Apple Watch to version 5.5. This comes with a number of new features and improvements, including preparing for Apple Intelligence and updating the Apple Watch app.

With the update to version 5.5, users can now use Siri to check the weather without having to open the app and create their own voice commands. Examples of this are requests such as “Do I need an umbrella today?” or “Where will the next rain be?” Siri uses the weather data from Rain Viewer to provide answers. In addition, the development team has added additional functions that integrate Rain Viewer into iOS 18:

  • A complete redesign of the Apple Watch app with even easier navigation
for a quick weather query on the user’s wrist.
  • A way to use the Rain Viewer icon as a widget for instant weather updates
    on the home screen.
  • A control center icon to open the app.
  • Haptic feedback for the radar animation.

Rain Viewer is still available in a free and paid version. The latter includes functions such as real-time storm tracking, severe weather warnings and the direction of a storm's movement, as well as 48-hour and 14-day weather forecasts. The premium subscription costs 4.99 euros per month or 18.99 euros per year. The 178 MB application is available in German and can be used with iOS/iPadOS 15 or watchOS 10.0 or later.
