Deputies search for suspect after shooting in Tompkins County home

LANSING, NY (WBNG) — The Tompkins County Sheriff's Office is searching for a suspect following a shooting incident in Lansing, NY, early Thursday morning.

The sheriff's office said officers responded around 12:11 a.m. to a report of shots fired at a home on North Lansing School Road.

According to the office, an argument broke out between three people in the home. One of the residents made threats and fired a gun. The office said it identified the suspect but did not release his name.

The office said officers found the resident, who called 911 after they fled the home. Officers heard more gunshots in the area.

Police found the weapon used in the incident but were unable to locate the suspect. The office determined that the suspect does not possess any other weapons.

The office believed the suspect and the other resident, who was still in the house, fled to a surrounding, heavily wooded area.

The Lansing School District, in consultation with the sheriff's office, ordered a two-hour delay while police searched the area. Police continued their search as of 9 a.m. Thursday.

The Tompkins County Sheriff's Office said the New York State Police and the Ithaca Police Department are assisting in the investigation. A state police helicopter was used in the search.

The office said officers will be present in the area throughout Thursday. No injuries were reported.

This is an evolving story.
