10-year-old boy dies after stabbing at Japanese school in China

The boy was stabbed to death on his way to school at around 8 a.m. local time on Wednesday by the suspected 44-year-old attacker, who was arrested at the scene, according to Chinese authorities. The child died in the early hours of Thursday, Japanese Foreign Minister Yoko Kamikawa told reporters.

“I take the incident extremely seriously,” Kamikawa said.

“Such a thing should not happen in any country. In particular, I sincerely regret that this despicable act was committed against a child on her way to school.”

Japan has asked China for a detailed explanation of the matter and strict security measures, she added.

Authorities in Japan and China refused to disclose the victim's nationality. The Shenzhen Japanese School's website states that the school is for children of Japanese nationality. Japan does not recognize dual citizenship for adults.
