Police say Springfield man attacked child and carried ghost gun

A Springfield man was charged Sunday after police said a ghost gun was found in his apartment and he struck a child and another person.

Angel Vazquez, 39, was arrested at approximately 6:05 p.m. on Sept. 15 and charged with possession of a firearm without an FID card, possession of ammunition without an FID card, possession of a high-capacity magazine/feeder, resisting government authority, assault and battery on a child causing injury, police said.

On Sept. 15, around 4:50 p.m., there was a report of a disturbance at an apartment in the 0-100 block of Spring Street, police said.

Officers were told that an adult and a child had been attacked and that the suspect – later identified as Vazquez – may have had a weapon, police added.

Officers went to the apartment to speak with Vazquez, but he did not answer the door, police said. After 15 minutes of “back and forth,” Vazquez opened the door and police said they saw a gun on a couch near him.

When Vazquez realized that police could see his gun, he tried to close the door, police said. But officers still entered the apartment and took the gun, police said. The gun was loaded, police added.
