Plot, cast, release date and where to watch

The son of former U.S. President John F. Kennedy and Jackie Kennedy, John Jr. grew up in the media spotlight, whether he wanted it or not, which made him one of the country's most eligible bachelors and made him the “Prince” of the United States. During his single years in the '80s and '90s, he dated Sarah Jessica Parker, Madonna, and Daryl Hannah, among others. However, he only found a match for himself in Carolyn Bessette, a PR agent for Calvin Klein.

There are conflicting reports about how the couple met. Some say they met while jogging in Central Park in 1990, while others claim they met at a social event in 1994. However, in 2014, the couple's friend said, Gustavo Paredes, said People that they met in 1994 in the Calvin Klein showroom, where John asked Carolyn out on a date, but she turned him down many times.

“She didn't believe he was serious. He couldn't believe she had rejected him. That had never happened before,” he told the publication.

“[He] I always found a way to return to the showroom for more business meetings and fittings.”

As their relationship gained momentum and the tabloid press crowned them the It Couple of the Decade, Carolyn became one of America's most talked-about women.

“Carolyn was not John’s shadow; she was his equal,” said RoseMarie Terenzio, John’s former chief of staff at George Magazine, recalled in her book Interrupted fairy tale: memories of life, love and loss.

In 1995, John proposed to Carolyn on the Fourth of July weekend on Martha's Vineyard, with a sapphire and diamond ring said to be based on a similar ring his mother once owned.

They managed to keep their wedding secret from the press in 1996 and the couple married September 21st in a church on Cumberland Island off the coast of Georgia. But their marital happiness was to last only a few years after their lives It ended tragically on the night of July 16, 1999, when they flew to Martha's Vineyard with Carolyn's sister, Lauren Bessette.

Piloting the single-engine plane, John, his wife and sister-in-law flew from New Jersey at 8:38 p.m., but lost control of the plane about an hour later over the Atlantic Ocean. Tragically, all three passengers died in the crash.

In a joint statement, the Kennedy and Bessette families expressed their sadness, stunning the world.

“John and Carolyn were true soul mates,” their statement said. The Washington Postadding that they “find comfort in the knowledge that together they will comfort Lauren for all eternity.”

As for those involved in the first part of the anthology series, Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk, Nina Jacobson, Brad Simpson and Alexis Martin Woodall have signed on as executive producers for the project.
