Stabbing man shot dead by state police in Woodbury, NY

Woodbury, New York: Best Compensation & Benefits Companies Near You – New York State police officers shot and killed a knife attacker in Woodbury, NY, on Wednesday afternoon

Police were searching for 28-year-old Ali Ali, who was considered armed and dangerous after a stabbing in New York City. Woodbury is about 60 miles north of the city in Orange County.

So far, police have not released any further details about the stabbing for which Ali was wanted.

According to police, Ali Ali ran into the forest after a fiery accident

At around 5:30 a.m. Wednesday morning, state troopers were notified of a stolen 2021 Chevy Equinox traveling north on the Thruway in Rockland County. Troopers spotted the vehicle near Exit 16 in Harriman and attempted to pull it over. State police say Ali was behind the wheel and ignored troopers who came to his aid. They say he crashed into a semi-truck and the Equinox burst into flames. Ali ran from the scene of the crash into the woods, state police said.

State police officials had warned the public not to approach him and to call 911 immediately if they spotted him.

A homeowner called police after seeing Ali on a game camera in Highland Mills around 12:30 p.m.

At 1:47 p.m., officers found Ali in the woods and confronted him. They say he was armed with a knife. State police say officers ordered him to drop the knife and deployed a taser. They say Ali initially fell to the ground, but then got up and charged at officers with his knife drawn. One of the officers then shot him. He died at the scene.

The New York Attorney General's office arrived at the scene.
