Former CIA employee sentenced to 30 years in prison for drug abuse and sexual harassment of women – The Week

In another shocking case in which dozens of women were drugged and sexually abused, former CIA agent Brian Jeffrey Raymond was sentenced to 30 years in prison on Wednesday.

In a press release, the Justice Department said Raymond, 48, of La Mesa, California, drugged more than two dozen women and performed sexual acts without their consent.

He is accused of sexually abusing at least ten women.

Raymond also photographed and filmed the victims without their consent while they were under the influence of drugs.

Raymond reportedly served with the CIA for over 20 years.

According to prosecutors, Raymond lured women he met through dating apps to his government-rented apartment and later drugged and abused them.

The attacks occurred in various countries and date back to 2006. Sexual assaults have also reportedly occurred in Mexico and Peru.

Meanwhile, the investigation into Raymond began in May 2020. According to court documents, police responded to a naked woman screaming for help on the balcony of Raymond's apartment.

The apartment had been rented by the US government for embassy staff.

The woman had told police that she and Raymond had met online. She had said that Raymond had raped her and accused her of giving her drugs while the two were drinking at his apartment.

During the investigation, several videos and images were found showing Raymond sexually abusing numerous women.

According to the Justice Department, Raymond accepted a deal in November 2023 and pleaded guilty to four counts of sexual abuse, abusive sexual contact, coercion and seduction, and promotion of obscene material, The Guardian reported.

During the trial, several women spoke about the trauma caused by Raymond's actions. “My body looks like a corpse on his bed,” said one of the women in the photos. “Now I have these nightmares where I see myself dead.”

Raymond's conviction comes at a time when the CIA is under intense scrutiny for its handling of sexual misconduct cases. A 648-page internal audit report revealed that the agency routinely failed to investigate such incidents.
