Man sentenced to 20 years in prison in rape case | News from India

Patiala – The Wonders of Patiala: In a shocking case of Sexual harassmentthe court of District and Session Judge Ropar Ramesh Kumari sentenced 20 years Detention to a resident of Sri Anandpur SahibRopar district.
The victim, a 19-year-old mentally disabled girl with an IQ 50 percent below average, was working as a shop assistant at the time of the crime.
The case came to light on September 15, 2022, when the victim’s brother filed an FIR under Sections 366, 376-D, 376(2)(j)(i) and 506 of the Indian Penal CodeAccording to the prosecutor's office, on September 6, 2022, the victim suffered from severe abdominal pain and a medical examination revealed that she was six months pregnant.
The victim alleged that Rahul Kumar and a juvenile, who is being tried separately by the juvenile court, worked in a sweet shop near the shop where she was employed. They forcibly took her to a nearby warehouse several times and raped her, threatening to kill her if she told anyone about the incident.
The court convicted Rahul Kumar and imposed imprisonment for 7 years and fine of Rs. 5,000 under Section 366 IPC, imprisonment for 20 years and fine of Rs. 50,000 under Section 376-D IPC, imprisonment for 20 years and fine of Rs. 50,000 under Section 376 (2)(j)(i)(n) IPC and imprisonment for 2 years and fine of Rs. 3,000 under Section 506 IPC. The sentences will be served concurrently and 90% of the fine collected from the convict will be given to the victim as compensation.
