Tragic end: Man found dead in toilet after drug overdose

A 25-year-old man was found dead in the toilet of a petrol station near the capital of Arunachal Pradesh on Thursday. He died of a suspected drug overdose, a senior official said.

The deceased, identified as Kabak Nyokum, had just been discharged from the Tomo Riba Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (TRIHMS) after a two-week detoxification programme, capital city police commissioner Rohit Rajbir Singh said.

The incident came to light when authorities found that the toilet was locked from the inside for an unusually long time, after which they called the police. When the officials broke down the door, they discovered Nyokum's body, which showed signs of rigor mortis. A used syringe, an empty vial and a mobile phone were recovered from the scene. Initial investigations suggested an overdose as fresh puncture marks were found on his right wrist, Singh added.

Nyokum was originally from Boasimla village in Kamle district and had been living in the state capital. The body was handed over to his family on the instructions of the administrative officer without an autopsy as the family did not suspect foul play.
