Father in custody for alleged sexual assault of his 7-year-old daughter

A Supreme Court in Ikeja on Thursday remanded 53-year-old Bitrus Daniyan to a reformatory for allegedly indecently sexually abusing his seven-year-old daughter.

The judge, Ms. E. Kubeinje, who did not accept Daniyan’s request, ordered that the file be forwarded to the Attorney General for consultation.

Kubeinje adjourned the case to October 15 for consultation with the prosecutor.

The defendant was charged with indecent sexual assault.

Earlier, the prosecution counsel, Insp. John Iberedem, told the court that the accused committed the offence in June at Military Zone C, Nominee Estate, Ajah, Lagos.

Iberedem said the accused sexually abused his daughter by inserting his finger into her private parts. He explained that Daniyan was caught by neighbours and handed over to the police.

The prosecutor stated that the offence contravened Section 261 of the Lagos State Penal Law, 2015.
