Make the most of your Nikon camera's two card slots

Sometimes twice as much is actually twice as good. Compared to Nikon's high-end DSLRs before them, the first mirrorless cameras, the Z6 and Z7, were criticized for having only a single memory card slot. This removed the safety net of being able to make instant backups to a second memory card every time you press the shutter button – and denied many other options that we'll get to later.

Another problem for many of us was that the single slot on these cameras could only accommodate the relatively rare XQD type of memory card, which is comparatively expensive to purchase and completely different from the SD (SecureDigital) cards that most of us have amassed. Thankfully, the Mark II editions of these cameras matched most other high-end Nikon DSLRs and subsequent mirrorless cameras by having two memory card slots, including an SD slot, which give you a wealth of useful features.
