Dead by Daylight: Ouch – Spin-off canceled, studio closed

Wow, things are really heating up at Behavior Interactive and Midwinter Entertainment. The planned PvE spin-off to Dead by Daylight has been shelved and the associated studio has apparently been shut down.

There's a lot going on. On Tuesday, Behavior Interactive announced that Project T, a planned PvE co-op shooter in the Dead by Daylight universe, will no longer be developed. The project was deemed too risky after initial playtests received rather unsatisfactory feedback.

Behaviour Interactive and Midwinter Entertainment had involved players in the development of the game quite early on with an insider program, but this has now caused the developers of Project T to come to a complete halt.

A statement reads: “Following the playtest in July, we conducted a thorough internal risk assessment from a product and commercial perspective. Although some of you have commented positively on the game, the overall analysis so far has unfortunately led to an unsatisfactory result.”

The latest reports say that the development stop has had serious consequences, as Behavior Interactive has apparently closed the responsible developer Midwinter Entertainment and laid off its employees. Several employees confirmed on LinkedIn that the studio no longer exists after seven years.

“Unfortunately, after nearly seven years, my time at Midwinter Entertainment has come to an abrupt end due to the closure of the studio,” writes Animation and Art Lead Daniel Alexander.

At least 35 employees are apparently affected by the Midwinter closure. The studio, founded in 2016, was only taken over by Behavior Interactive in 2022.
