DMK leader and Chief Minister MK Stalin termed the central government's proposal to hold simultaneous elections on Thursday as impractical, unfeasible and a “diversionary tactic” that the BJP-led regime could never implement.

In a post on X, Stalin said, “#OneNationOneElection is an impractical concept that ignores the complexity of India's diverse electoral system and undermines federalism. It is logistically unworkable given the vast differences in electoral cycles, regional issues and government priorities.”

This would require an unrealistic coordination of all terms of office and thus disrupt the natural course of governance.

This whole proposal is just an attempt to satisfy the ego of the BJP, but they will never be able to implement it. India's democracy cannot be molded to the greed of one party. The Union government should address pressing issues like unemployment, price rise and equitable distribution of resources among the states instead of wasting energy on these diversionary tactics.
