Chinese man jailed for murder of Zimbabwean miner

Chinese national Cai Yulong, who runs the Stone Steel Blue Mine in Zhombe, has been convicted after being charged with three serious counts: murder, attempted murder and assault on Zimbabwean miners. The verdict was handed down by the High Court in Gokwe.

The incident: A fatal shooting at the Black Hand 10 Mine

The tragic events occurred on May 26, 2024, when workers from the Black Hand 10 Mine were on shift and working underground to build a barricade near the boundary of their mine and the defendant's mine. While they were working, Cai Yulong approached the scene armed and fired several shots at the miners.

In desperation, the workers tried to escape and ran towards the exit of the mine. But Cai Yulong pursued them. In the midst of the chaos, the accused fired a shot that hit one of the miners in the thigh. Unfortunately, the victim succumbed to his injuries from the gunshot wound.
