Suspended sentence imposed for knife attack | News, Sports, Jobs

A man accused of stabbing another man during an altercation in downtown Fort Dodge in June has pleaded guilty.

Jeffery O. Holland, 60, of Fort Dodge received a two-year sentence, but it was suspended, according to court records, meaning he will not have to spend any time behind bars other than the time he served during his initial arrest.

The incident occurred on June 20 at 4:20 p.m. in an alley in the 900 block of First Avenue North. According to the criminal complaint filed by Fort Dodge Police against him, Holland “attacked the victim by stabbing him with a knife, causing injuries to his hand, chest and stomach.”

The victim was treated at the scene by Fort Dodge Fire Department paramedics.

Holland was arrested and charged with assault with a dangerous weapon.

Holland's trial was scheduled to begin on Tuesday, but instead of going to trial, he pleaded guilty to the charges.

In response to his guilty plea, District Judge Adria Kester imposed a two-year suspended sentence. She also imposed a fine of $855, but the fine was also suspended.

If Holland is convicted of another crime, he could face a suspended sentence and a fine.
