Trial for axe attack in Guntersblum before Mainz Regional Court

Two men are said to have attacked their landlord with an axe and a blank-firing pistol. Starting today, they must answer to the Mainz district court.

The attack took place in the early evening, one day before Christmas Eve 2021. According to the public prosecutor's office, the 32- and 35-year-old defendants were on their way to Guntersblum to see the man who had sublet an apartment to them.

Threat with axe and gun

She stood on the man's terrace armed with a blank-firing pistol and an axe and shouted: “We're going to finish you off.” Then she smashed the glass pane of the terrace door.

Wild brawl breaks out

What happened next during the investigation was like something out of a Bud Spencer and Terence Hill film: One of the perpetrators ran towards the man, but the man knocked him down with a punch. The attacker then grabbed his victim's legs.

Shots and axe blows

The other perpetrator then shot the landlord four or five times with blank cartridges until the landlord also knocked him down with his fist. When he got back up, the attacker struck the victim with the axe. He hit the man in the head. The man was able to turn away, however, so he was not seriously injured.

When the victim then moved towards a camera system that was monitoring the house, the men finally let him go. According to the public prosecutor's office, the man suffered three cuts to his head during the attack.

The background to the attack is not known.
