Storm Force decides Game 3, El Paso wins in 10 innings – San Diego Union-Tribune

Left-handed Luis Gutierrez threw five solid innings and a six-run third inning bolstered him as low-ranked Single-A Lake Elsinore beat Modesto 9-2 on Tuesday to force a decisive third game of the California League Championship Series.

The series is 1:1.

Gutierrez had three strikeouts and allowed one run on four hits and two walks.

Right-handed Nuthatch Olmedo made six strikeouts in three innings with one run.

Catcher Brendan Durfeeleft fielder Braedon Karpathios and right fielder Sean Barnett all scored two runs with two hits.

Durfe, Karpathios, Jack Costello and shortstop Brandon Butterworth doubled in each case.

Game 3 is on Wednesday at 7:05 p.m.

Chihuahuas 7, Las Vegas 5 (10): The bullpen finished the game with 6⅓ innings without a hit. RHP Jared Kollar (4.43 ERA) were responsible for three of them, RHP Francis Pena (3-2, 5.27 ERA), turned two and LHP Austin Davis (3.35 ERA) secured the save with a scoreless 10th inning. RHP Carl Edwards Jr. (5.31 ERA) allowed five runs in 3⅔ innings. A sacrifice fly by 2B Tony Dungan (.786 OPS) and an RBI single from RHP Bryce Johnson (.851 OPS) scored the decisive runs in the 10th inning. RF Cal Mitchell (.842 OPS) hit his 18th home run. C Luis Campusano (.646 OPS) went 2-for-4 with one RBI, one walk and one run scored.
