Left-handed Luis Gutierrez threw five solid innings and a six-run third inning bolstered him as low-ranked Single-A Lake Elsinore beat Modesto 9-2 on Tuesday to force a decisive third game of the California League Championship Series.

The series is 1:1.

Gutierrez had three strikeouts and allowed one run on four hits and two walks.

Right-handed Nuthatch Olmedo made six strikeouts in three innings with one run.

Catcher Brendan Durfeeleft fielder Braedon Karpathios and right fielder Sean Barnett all scored two runs with two hits.

Durfe, Karpathios, Jack Costello and shortstop Brandon Butterworth doubled in each case.

Game 3 is on Wednesday at 7:05 p.m.

A sacrifice fly by 2B Tony Dungan (.786 OPS) and an RBI single from RHP Bryce Johnson (.851 OPS) scored the decisive runs in the 10th inning. RF Cal Mitchell (.842 OPS) hit his 18th home run.
