Kokomo woman sentenced to six years in prison for triple stabbing

A Kokomo woman who pleaded guilty for her role in a triple stabbing earlier this year at a residence in the Village Green Mobile Home Park has been sentenced to six years in prison by the Indiana Department of Correction.

The sentence against 19-year-old Katelyn Catlett will be split between house arrest and supervised probation, according to court documents.

According to court documents, Catlett originally faced three counts of aggravated assault (all Level 3 felonies) and three counts of assault with a deadly weapon (all Level 5 felonies) for her role in the January 2024 incident.

But according to the agreement between both parties, Catlett pleaded guilty to three counts of assault with a deadly weapon.

The other three charges were subsequently dropped.

On January 10, authorities were called to the Village Green Mobile Home Park (4463 S. 00 EW), where, according to police reports at the time, a domestic dispute was in progress.

When they arrived, authorities allegedly saw Catlett standing in the street and took her into custody without incident, according to court documents.

At this point, police reported that Catlett's hand was bleeding profusely. She told officers at the scene that she had intentionally cut herself and “wanted to die.”

According to court documents, Catlett also told investigators that she got into an argument with her father because she wanted to visit another person's house and her father would not give her his cell phone.

The woman later stated that during the argument, a relative stepped between the two, whereupon Catlett pulled a box cutter out of his pocket and stabbed the relative, according to court documents.

According to her interview with authorities, Catlett then ran into the bathroom and attempted to stab her father as he tried to open the door, but was unsuccessful, court documents show.

But over the next few minutes, court documents show, Catlett actually stabbed two more female relatives before finally putting down the box cutter, calling 911 and waiting outside for emergency responders to arrive.

As part of the investigation, police also interviewed Catlett's father. According to court documents, he told investigators that there had been “several incidents throughout the day,” including one that reportedly occurred at the Howard County Courthouse.

Catlett's father added that during the argument with his daughter, a relative who was also in the house told Catlett to “respect her father,” which he said was “the cause of the stabbing,” according to court documents.
