City boss Guardiola gives fitness update on Foden and Savinho

Manchester, September 16 (SocialNews.XYZ) Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has given an update on Phil Foden's fitness status, saying that the England star is close to returning to Manchester City after missing the last three matches due to illness.

The 24-year-old midfielder, who has been out for the past three weeks through illness, missed City's games against Ipswich, West Ham and Brentford. Foden was originally named in England's squad for the games against the Republic of Ireland and Finland, but was forced to withdraw along with Cole Palmer and Ollie Watkins.

“He hasn't done too many training sessions. Step by step. I'm happy he's back. We need him badly and it's important for us that he's back. He trained this week. The game was close and I decided to use other options,” Guardiola was quoted as saying on Man City's website.

On Brazilian winger Savinho, who had to be substituted in the closing stages of the 2-1 win over Brentford due to an apparent muscle problem, Gurdiola said: “It looks like a cramp. I haven't spoken to the doctor; we'll see.”

The City boss also said he was pleased with Rodrigo's return in the second half against Brentford.

Rodrigo had a busy last season for club and country and was given a lengthy break before returning to training. Now he looks rested and ready to get going again.

“He came in and played really well. He was injured, played a few minutes for the national team and today he played his first 45 for us. He said he felt good. Rodri is so important for us. Kova was incredible and Rodri can't play all the minutes so we rotate. That's what we need. It was important that Gundo had an extra minute and Kyle his first minutes, John (Stones) too,” he concluded.
