Elijah Vue's mother issues statement after her son's remains confirmed

TWO RIVERS, Wis. (WBAY) – Elijah Vue's mother, Katrina Baur, released a statement through her attorney after it was announced that her son's remains had been found.

“Katrina Baur is devastated by the recent news identifying the remains found as Elijah,” Baur's attorney Amber Gratz said in an emailed statement to WBAY-TV. “She continued to hold out hope that her little boy would be found alive. At this time, she is grieving the loss of her son.”

Two Rivers Police confirmed last week that human remains found on private property are those of missing child Elijah Vue. The remains were found by a hunter who was preparing his land for the upcoming hunting season.

Baur remains behind bars and faces child neglect charges. He is accused of abusing Elijah.

Jesse Vang, Baur's boyfriend, reported Elijah missing on Feb. 20 while the boy was staying with him. According to a criminal complaint, Elijah spent time with Vang as “punishment” for bad behavior, and Baur, who is from Wisconsin Dells, wanted Vang to teach her 3-year-old to “be a man.”

Vang and Katrina Baur are charged with child neglect, and Baur is also charged with obstructing police. Both have pleaded not guilty, and their cases are still pending in court.

Baur attempted several times to reduce her bail, but these requests were denied.

Last month, however, a judge modified Baur's bail to allow her supervised contact with her children.

Her next court date is in October.
