Emmys 2024: The winners – one show beats everything

The 2024 Emmy Awards, the most prestigious TV awards in the USA, were recently presented for the second time this year and brought with it some unforeseen twists and turns.

After the 2023 Emmy Awards were postponed last January due to a strike, the 2024 Emmy Awards were now presented as planned, marking the second time in a year that the most important television productions and actors were honored. With Shogun's record-breaking victory, there was a clear star of the evening, but other productions such as The Bear and Baby Reindeer also received great recognition. The list of winners of the 2024 Emmys once again underlines the high quality and diversity of the TV landscape in the USA.

Records and surprises: The Emmy Awards 2024 in detail

The big story of the evening was undoubtedly the triumphant victory of “Shogun”, which broke several records and won in several categories. “The Bear” also managed to win again, although the title of best comedy series went to another production. Netflix's “Baby Reindeer” also won an award and received a lot of praise for its compelling storytelling. There were a few surprises in the acting category, most notably the victories of Liza Colón-Zayas and Lamorne Morris, who caused great excitement in their categories and thus unexpectedly became the winners of the evening.

In the non-series category of best talk show, Comedy Central's “The Daily Show” took home the trophy, as it has so often done before. In the variety shows, it was the nine-time winner “Last Week Tonight with John Oliver” from HBO. And Peacock won best competition program with “The Traitors”. The awards ceremony could also be seen on MagentaTV, with series junkie Hanna Huge and journalist Patrick Heidmann providing commentary during the breaks.
