KT Rama Rao: Central government must clarify implementation of ‘One Nation, One Election’

Hyderabad:

The central government must provide clarity on how it intends to implement the “one nation election” principle. Only then can the BRS party explain its position on the proposal, said senior party leader KT Rama Rao on Wednesday.

When asked by journalists about the party's stance on the simultaneous elections, he replied that several issues need to be resolved before the parliamentary elections in 2029, including conducting a census, delimitation of constituencies and implementation of women's suffrage reservation.

“I say the central government has to clarify how it is going to implement this. Because the parliamentary elections have just ended. And Lok Sabha elections will not take place until 2029,” said Rama Rao, acting president of the Bharat Rashtra Samiti led by former Prime Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao.

“… would you first abolish all state governments and prepare them for elections? Or do you want to implement it gradually,” he asked.

The Union Cabinet on Wednesday approved the ‘One Nation, One Election’ proposal as recommended by former President Ram Nath Kovind’s panel.
