One dead in industrial accident at a freight yard in northern Ontario

It was a tragic day in Ontario Northland in North Bay.

North Bay Police have confirmed that one person was killed in an industrial accident at the Ontario Northland Railroad Depot.

According to sources, the incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon.

North Bay police issued a statement Tuesday evening.

“The North Bay Police Service, with assistance from the Ontario Provincial Police, responded to a reported fatal industrial accident that occurred at the Ontario Northland Transportation Commission freight yard, where one person was found deceased at the scene,” North Bay Police Communications Officer David Woolley said in an email Tuesday evening.

“As investigations are currently ongoing by Transport Canada and the Office of the Chief Coroner of Ontario, we are unable to provide any further details at this time.”

Ontario Northland issued a statement early Wednesday morning.

“Our deepest condolences go out to the friends, families and colleagues of our Ontario Northland team following this incident,” said Rebecca McGlynn, Chief Marketing and Communications Officer at Ontario Northland.

“As this case is currently under investigation, please contact the Department of Labor for further information.”
