Second of three men injured in North Omaha shooting arrested for assault

A second man injured in a shooting in north Omaha on Monday was released from the hospital and booked into the Douglas County Jail.

Marquis Jones, 20, was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of second-degree assault, use of a weapon and discharging a firearm near a vehicle or building. Darnell Marion-Jones, 19, was released from an Omaha hospital and booked into the Douglas County Jail on Monday. He is charged with first-degree assault, two counts of use of a weapon to commit a felony, attempted robbery and tampering with evidence.

Another man injured by gunfire Monday, 24-year-old Cameron Watkins, remains hospitalized, police said. Investigators are still trying to determine the motive for the shootings, but Watkins is not believed to have been involved in the incident.

A 15-year-old boy, who was not injured, was also arrested in connection with the shooting, which occurred at about 1:40 p.m. at the corner of 38th and Franklin Streets. He was arrested on suspicion of attempted robbery, use of a weapon to commit a crime and tampering with evidence.

The boy was also arrested on robbery and weapon charges in connection with the Sept. 1 robbery of Sol's Jewelry and Loan, 2505 S. 120th St. He is being held at the Douglas County Youth Center.

ShotSpotter recorded nine gunshots near 38th and Franklin Streets. Officers arrived to find Watkins in critical condition. He was taken to Nebraska Medical Center.

Marion-Jones was taken to the hospital after she was found with gunshot wounds near 30th Street and Lincoln Boulevard. Jones drove a private vehicle to Creighton University Medical Center-University Campus near 24th and Cuming streets and was then taken by ambulance to Creighton University Medical Center-Bergan Mercy, police said.
