Associate professor of Utkal University suspended for sexually harassing a student

Bhubaneswar: An associate professor of Utkal University was suspended today for allegedly sexually harassing a girl student at the educational institution.

The proceedings against the accused, an associate professor at the Faculty of Economics, were initiated on the basis of a report submitted to the Vice-Chancellor by an internal committee of the university.

He was instructed not to leave the headquarters without the permission of the Vice Chancellor.

According to the claim of the further As a student, she went to the associate professor's room on August 16 to fetch some books, where the accused sexually assaulted her. He also warned her not to tell anyone about the incident, she claimed.

Though the victim initially submitted a written complaint to the Sexual Harassment Cell of Utkal University, no action was taken. Later, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) registered a case based on a petition filed by an RTI activist.
