Death overtakes husband and wife in their own bedroom

Gelsenkirchen- A fire in Gelsenkirchen claimed the lives of two people on Wednesday night. At 2:12 a.m., 29 emergency personnel and the rescue service were alerted to the Idastrasse.

A resident had told the firefighters that there was a fire in the house and that there were most likely people in the apartment.

This assumption was confirmed. The comrades on site actually found smoke on the second floor. The building was evacuated, with the emergency services using their cards to ensure that the stairwell remained smoke-free.

Rescuers entered the affected apartment with compressed air breathing apparatus and a C-hose. They found a couple unconscious in the bedroom.

Both people were taken out of the building and handed over to the emergency services. Unfortunately, any help came too late. The emergency doctor could only confirm the death of the man and woman.

No other people were injured. The remaining people were able to return to their homes after about an hour.

In this context, the fire department once again draws attention to the importance of smoke detectors in residential buildings, which can save lives.
