Man accused of touching former student fired from Career Tech High | News

A former Guahan Academy Charter School teacher who was arrested for allegedly touching a former student has been fired from his job at Career Tech High Academy Charter School for just a few weeks, school principal Will Castro confirmed.

Dominic Jerome Leon Guerrero was arrested Sept. 4 after Guam Airport Police responded to a complaint of sexual abuse at a school in Tiyan, charging documents say.

A 17-year-old boy reported that his former teacher Leon Guerrero touched his penis and forced the boy to kiss him between January and May of this year.

According to Castro, Leon Guerrero only started working at Career Tech on August 8, the start of the school year, and had never been employed at the school before.

Castro said he had only been employed at Career Tech for a few weeks.

As the Pacific Daily News previously reported, Leon Guerrero's former employer, Guåhan Academy Charter School, has informed authorities about the teacher's alleged misconduct.

The former teacher worked at GACS for several years before leaving in early 2024.

The former teacher was arrested on September 4 and has since been released on $10,000 bail.

Castro told PDN on Wednesday that the former teacher was fired after media reports about the arrest suggested he had admitted wrongdoing.

He said Career Tech asked for a criminal record and a police clearance certificate when he was hired, but there were no red flags.

Leon Guerrero admitted to touching the student's penis while he was changing clothes in class, the judge's indictment says. Leon Guerrero also said he knew it was wrong, the indictment says.

A report on Leon Guerrero's criminal history prepared by the Attorney General's Office shows that there was no conviction or arrest before September 4.

“We discussed school policies regarding student safety before and even after this situation,” Castro said.

“We have fully informed students, teachers and the student body about a case that has appeared in the media involving a … former member of our staff. If there are any concerns, please let us know as soon as possible,” he said.

Castro said to his knowledge there have been no similar reports at the school since then.

Safety and the student climate at Career Tech are some of the most important factors considered in the school's accreditation, the rector said.

The school continues to respond sensitively to violations by staff or students, he added.
