Dead by Daylight: Too risky commercially

With “Project T,” the developers at Midwinter Entertainment are working on a PvE spin-off in the world of “Dead by Daylight.” As Behavior Interactive admitted, the studio decided to stop the project for business reasons.

Last year, Behavior Interactive announced that the studio had “Dead by Daylight” ambitious plans for the future. The planned projects included not only legendary guest characters such as Lara Croft Or the Xenomorph from “Alien” that found their way into “Dead by Daylight”.

Behavior Interactive also announced 2023 a movie and various new games in the world of “Dead by Daylight”. Including “Project T”, a cooperative PvE shooter. “Project T” was created by Midwinter Entertainment and was supposed to revolve around themes such as power and greed.

After the first playtests for the spin-off took place in 2024, those responsible at Behavior Interactive have now come forward with unpleasant news. As the company admits, “Project T” will no longer be released.

Development of the spin-off discontinued

In an official statement, Behavior Interactive pointed out that the studio internally concluded that “Project T” was a commercial goal that was too risky. Therefore, those responsible decided to stop development of the PvE spin-off.

“When we designed Project T, we wanted to involve players as early as possible, which led to the creation of the Insiders program,” the statement said. “This approach allowed us to get confirmation of the project's core design and gameplay very early on, something that usually doesn't happen until much later in a game's production phase.”

“Following the July playtest, we conducted a thorough internal risk assessment from a product and business perspective. “Although a number of players expressed their appreciation for what they played, the outcome of this in-depth analysis unfortunately led to overall unsatisfactory results,” the studio added.

“It is with heavy hearts that we announce that Project T has been discontinued. We want to thank you for your support on this journey.”

Dead By Daylight to be supported long-term

Last summer, Behavior Interactive spoke extensively about the future of “Dead by Daylight” and revealed why the studio is not interested in a sequel. According to Mathieu Côté, Head of Partnership, the focus is instead on new content and features with which the developers want to further expand “Dead by Daylight”.

“We want to focus on our core game and continue to expand,” Côté said on the subject. “Dead by Daylight is not going anywhere. There are still so many stories to tell and so there is no reason for us to start a new one.”

“Dead by Daylight” is available for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S. There are also adapted versions for Android and iOS.
