Russia suffers 'massive losses' in devastating Ukrainian attack on occupied air base | World | News

Russian forces suffered “massive losses” after Ukraine attacked a Moscow base in the occupied Donetsk region.

With the deployment of highly mobile artillery rocket systems (HIMARS), the Ukrainian armed forces dealt Russia another blow in the war.

The Telegram channel ASTRA, which is run by independent Russian journalists, said: “A video has appeared on the Internet showing the aftermath of an attack, presumably at a training ground near Donetsk.”

They quoted Russian military broadcaster Alex Parker Return as saying the attack was carried out with “HIMARS cluster munitions during another exercise.”

The channel added: “Massive losses. You can make mistakes, but you can't lie. You can't learn. Unfortunately.”

Russian Telegram channels reported that the attack left 50 people dead.

Western weapons such as HIMARS have proven crucial to Ukraine in its efforts to repel the Russian invasion.

Ukraine has repeatedly asked the US and Britain to allow Kiev's armed forces to attack Russian territory with Western weapons – a request that politicians in Washington and London have so far failed to fulfill.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky continues to push for approval while presenting a plan to US Secretary of State Antony Blinken to end the war.

Mr Blinken was reportedly briefed on a plan that would force Russia to agree to a ceasefire.

US Ambassador to the United Nations Linda Thomas-Greenfield said Washington had seen the plan, adding: “We believe it sets out a strategy and a plan that can work.”

In a post on X, Zelensky said the plan was “90 percent complete” and would bring “real peace.”

He added: “Throughout the day we have held various meetings to prepare our plan for a Ukrainian victory. Each point is filled with real substance – military, political, diplomatic and economic. Key figures from every area were involved. The necessary steps for Ukraine are already clearly defined.”

“These steps will put us in the strongest possible positions to build peace – a real and just peace. For each step, we have a clear list of actions – what exactly is needed and what will strengthen our efforts.

“There is nothing impossible in this plan. More than 90 percent of it has already been worked out. This comprehensive package will ensure the correct development of the situation not only for Ukraine, but for all people in the world who value international law. Next week we will present our victory plan to our allies.

“I am grateful to all the people in the world who stand by Ukraine and help us defend life.”
