Security measures increased after recent shooting, says Florida Road manager

A woman was shot dead in a restaurant on Tuesday morning, allegedly by her boyfriend, a police officer.

Two other people were injured.

The man, who was a member of the Westville police, was shot by members of the eThekwini Metro Police. He died in hospital.

The SAPS in KZN says the case is currently under investigation and a domestic dispute cannot be ruled out.

Vanessa Knight of the UIP says a lot of work has gone into curbing street crime, including increasing security.

Knight says residents feel safe.

“Even though not many people were affected, the damage could have been ten times worse, but incidents like this can happen anywhere. It was a big shock to us, really, and it's just a tragic, tragic situation. This country really needs to work hard to do something about gender-based violence.”
