Hezbollah's exploding pagers came from Taiwan and were primed with 1 to 2 ounces of explosives

The pagers that exploded in a coordinated – and deadly – attack on Hezbollah terrorists in Lebanon on Tuesday came from Taiwan and were reportedly loaded with a load of high explosives weighing between 38 and 60 grams.

The bombs all exploded simultaneously on Tuesday afternoon after receiving a message that triggered the detonation. At least nine people – including an eight-year-old girl – were killed and nearly 3,000 others were injured. The Iranian ambassador to Lebanon was among the injured.

Hezbollah, a militant group backed by Iran and designated a terrorist organization by the United States, has ordered more than 3,000 of the latest model from Taiwan-based Gold Apollo, most of which are the company's AP924 model, American and other officials briefed on the operation told The New York Times.

However, according to a translation of Israeli media reports, the shipment was allegedly intercepted by the Israeli secret service Mossad five months ago and prepared with the highly explosive substance pentaerythritol tetranitrate, sources told Sky News Arabia.

According to the Times, officials said they were allegedly implanted with only a 30- to 50-gram dose of the explosive, which was placed next to each battery, along with a switch that could remotely trigger a detonation.

At around 3:30 p.m. local time, all pagers received a message that appeared to have been sent by Hezbollah leadership, officials said.

The message caused the batteries to overheat, which triggered the switch and detonated the explosive device.

Eight of the people killed in the explosions are believed to have been members of the terrorist group.

Officials also said the pagers were programmed to beep for several seconds before exploding.

Eight of the people killed in the explosions were apparently members of the terrorist group, the Associated Press reported.

Lebanese Health Minister Firas Abiad told Qatari broadcaster Al Jazeera that an eight-year-old girl was also killed and around 2,750 people were injured – 200 of them in critical condition.

A US official told AP that Israel informed the US about the high-profile operation after the fact. However, the Israeli military has remained silent on the detonations and has not confirmed that it carried out the complex attack.

Yet Hezbollah has blamed Israel and vowed revenge.

The Israeli military and Hezbollah have been fighting each other since the beginning of the bloody conflict in the Gaza Strip, which was triggered by the terrorist attack carried out by Hamas on the Jewish state on October 7.
