Unpleasant scenes at the Formula 2 race in Baku when several cars collided. A young German driver was also affected.

Baku – The Azerbaijan Grand Prix on Sunday (September 15) featured some spectacular scenes, including an unpleasant one. Shortly before the end, Formula 1 drivers Sergio Perez (Red Bull) and Carlos Sainz (Ferrari) collided and neither of them could finish the race.

Serious Formula 2 crash in Baku: German Oliver Goethe in the thick of it

But it was by no means the only crash in the capital Baku this weekend. There was also a lot of noise in the Formula 2 race, with three cars involved. One of them was that of the young German driver Oliver Goethe (MP Motorsport). But had war happened?

Kush Maini (Invicta Racing) had problems at the start and could barely move. Several drivers reacted quickly and swerved, but others were unable to do so – including Goethe. The 19-year-old crashed into the rear of Maini and then slid into the right-hand barrier.

Formula 2: Young German driver Oliver Goethe has had little success so far

Josep Maria Marti was hit even harder. The Spaniard also collided with Maini's car, which was now in the middle of the track. His car took off, rolled over and then landed on its wheels again. The race was then interrupted for around 15 minutes.

A blessing in disguise for everyone: There were no injuries in the accident, all drivers are fine. “I'm glad that no one was hurt and that Oliver and Pepe are OK.” That's the most important thing after an accident like that. “It's a real shame to end the weekend like this, because we had a strong pace in training, qualifying and the sprint,” said Maini, who was also given a penalty for the next race for his botched start.

Things haven't really been going well for Goethe, who was introduced at MP Motorsport at the end of August as Franco Colapinto's successor (who is moving to Williams in Formula 1). At the race in Monza almost two weeks ago, he only finished 16th. He was unable to finish either of the sprints, which were held in both Italy and Azerbaijan. Now the accident is the negative highlight of his still young F2 career. (masculine)
