Angelina County man sentenced to life in prison for child sexual abuse

LUFKIN, Texas (KTRE) – An Angelina County man who committed criminal sex acts against children has been sentenced to life in prison.

According to court records, Paul Edmund-Derrick LaFleur, 57, of Zavalla, was charged with continuous sexual abuse of a child under 14, two counts of aggravated sexual assault of a child, indecent conduct with a child by sexual contact and sexual conduct of a child under 14: produce/instruct/promote.

He was found guilty on Friday, September 13th.

159th District Court Judge Todd Kassaw sentenced LaFleur to life in prison, effective immediately. He will be turned over to the Texas Department of Criminal Justice to serve his sentence.

LaFleur committed the crimes against an 8-year-old boy beginning in 2014 and against two teenagers between 2016 and 2020. According to an affidavit, he also gave the teens weed before the robbery and asked them if they would rather get high before he started. He also gave them gifts such as candy, energy drinks and video games.

LaFleur was accused of renting a storage unit where he took the boys before attacking them. He also took inappropriate photos of one of the boys during a fishing trip, according to that affidavit.
