Eastbound traffic diverted on I-70 as semi-truck crash blocks both lanes

GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colo. (KJCT) – Eastbound travelers on the Glenwood Canyon portion of the I-70 corridor should expect an indefinite closure today as a crashed semi-truck is blocking both lanes.

The truck was traveling through the ravine in the westbound lanes of I-70 around 9:30 a.m. when it struck the guardrail and fell at least 10 feet before landing in the eastbound lanes. According to the Colorado State Patrol, the driver was the only person injured in the crash. The driver was hospitalized with serious injuries. No further information about the driver's condition or identity has been released.

The Colorado Department of Transportation recommends a northern alternate route in the press release announcing the closure. CDOT stated that drivers should take Exit 87 to Rifle, then head north on CO 13 to Craig, then follow US 40 to Steamboat Springs, then head south on CO 9 to Silverthorn, where drivers can rejoin I-70.

Westbound motorists do not need to worry about a detour as CDOT crews are allowing westbound traffic through the accident scene. However, delays are likely as crews are slowing traffic around the accident scene.

You can track the closure status live on CDOT's COTrip website.
