Minneapolis fires police officer who demanded sex act during night shift

When the woman responds with a lewd photo of herself, Alonzo texts, “Okay, give me a second. Let's see if I can end the call.” Ten minutes later, Alonzo texts that he arrived at her apartment and was instructed to be called upstairs.

Timestamps show that the messages were exchanged over a 2.5-hour period during his shift. The night shift, known as “dogwatch,” typically lasts until about 6:30 a.m.

The civilian later told investigators that she had communicated with Alonzo through Grindr and confirmed that he had shown up at her home in full uniform several times in August 2022. Automatic location tracking data in his city-provided patrol car showed that on two dates the vehicle was parked near her home – outside the Fifth Precinct, to which he was assigned. There were no known assignments there.

When questioned by Internal Affairs, Alonzo admitted that while on duty he met a woman at her home and “performed oral sex on her,” acknowledging that such behavior could raise public concern.

“I can imagine people believing I was intentionally making a 911 call,” Alonzo said, according to disciplinary records. “It also undermines the trust of the police and the community.”

A review of Alonzo's search history in the city's Police Information Management System (PIMS) revealed that he had used the database to obtain private information about the woman that was unrelated to his official work duties. He contacted a phone number obtained through an address search, believing it to be the woman from the dating app, but it turned out to be that of her roommate.
