Five family members die in traffic accident in K'taka, dog survives

In a tragic incident, five members of the same family were killed in a road accident near Gudemaranahalli village in Magadi taluk of Ramanagar district of Karnataka on Tuesday. However, a dog, which was travelling with the family in the car, survived the accident.

The deceased was from Kunigal town in Tumakuru district. Police reported that the victims were on their way to a temple after a family function. The driver lost control of the vehicle and it crashed into a tree on the side of the road.

Authorities said speeding was the cause of the accident. The car was travelling from Magadi towards Bengaluru. The bodies of two men and three women were recovered and taken to Nelamangala Government Hospital. The identities of the dead are yet to be confirmed.

The force of the accident was so great that, despite the airbags being deployed, all the car's occupants died on the spot. The dog was taken to a veterinary clinic for treatment.

In another tragic incident, a Kerala couple and their son were killed on Tuesday when they were hit by a dump truck on the outskirts of the neighbouring town of Gundlupet in Chamarajanagar district of Karnataka. The dead were identified as Dhanesh, his wife Anju and their son Ishan.

According to police, the victims were travelling from Kerala to Gundlupet on a motorcycle. Preliminary investigations indicated that the driver of a dump truck, who was allegedly drunk, rammed the motorcycle from behind. The victims were dragged for about 300 metres under the wheels of the truck laden with stones.

The bodies of the victims were so badly damaged that they could not be identified. The Gundlupet police have launched an investigation into the incident.
