Sacramento Metro firefighters report body and woman found with severe burns in Antelope home

One person is dead and a woman is in the hospital with burns after a fire destroyed a home in Antelope early Tuesday morning.

Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District fire crews were called to the fire at 7648 Tartan Drive in Antelope at 12:23 a.m. and found the home “in flames” when they arrived, Metro Fire Capt. Mark Nunez said. Firefighters soon discovered the body of one of the home's residents, Nunez said.

The person's name has not been released because the family has not yet been notified by the Sacramento County Coroner. The fire remains under investigation.

A woman who was also inside the home survived, Nunez said. She was initially taken to Mercy San Juan Medical Center in Carmichael before being transferred to the UC Davis Firefighters Burn Institute Regional Burn Center, Nunez said.
