Man in his 50s dies after being trapped under a forklift

A man in his 50s has died in a tragic accident after becoming trapped under a forklift.

Shortly after 10am this morning, emergency services were called to an “industrial accident” on Station Road in Erdington, Birmingham.

A man in his fifties was said to have been trapped under a forklift truck, and despite all efforts by police and rescue workers, it was “quickly clear” that he could no longer be saved.

Police are continuing to investigate to determine the exact nature of the incident.

In a statement, West Midlands Police said: “We were called at around 10.14am this morning (September 17) to a man trapped under a forklift truck at a property on Station Road, Erdington.”

“A man believed to be 50 years old was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.”

“Investigations to determine the exact nature of the incident are ongoing and the occupational health and safety authority has been informed.”

A spokeswoman for West Midlands Ambulance said: “We were called to an industrial accident on Station Road at 10.11am. Two ambulances and a paramedic attended the scene.”

“When we arrived, we discovered a patient, a man. Unfortunately, it quickly became clear that he could not be saved and his death was pronounced at the scene.”

A spokesman for Birmingham City Council said: “West Midlands Police have informed us of the incident.”

“Health and safety inspectors from the council’s environmental health team are on site and investigating.”
