The key to the Las Vegas Raiders’ onslaught

The key to the Las Vegas Raiders’ onslaught

The Las Vegas Raiders started the season with several running backs and a newly formed offensive line.

They also signed offensive coordinator Luke Getsy, who has had a respectable career in the National Football League. After losing running back Josh Jacobs in free agency earlier in the offseason, the Raiders believed running back Zamir White would emerge as the team's primary running back. Las Vegas also has veteran running backs Ameer Abdullah and Alexander Mattison to complement the young running back.

The Raiders faced two of the best defenses in the league, the Los Angeles Chargers and Baltimore Ravens have impressive defensive lines. Las Vegas struggled to run the ball against both teams, rushing for 71 yards against the Chargers and 27 yards against the Ravens. The Raiders averaged 49 yards per game in the first two games of the season, which is the lowest in the NFL.

Coach Antonio Pierce said the offense had trouble running because the offensive line did not block well earlier in the season.

“Man, it's got to start at the front,” Pierce said. “It's got to start at the front. I'm going to be honest here and use a coaching cliche, but it starts with me. It starts with our coaches, our offensive line coach, our coordinator. This is bad, this is crappy bad and it's not good enough. And our players are going to find out in a second here.

“We just can't do that. I mean, less than two yards per carry, getting thrown back, third-and-short and getting nothing. I mean, there has to be an intent and a style of play that we've talked about, that we practice, that we've preached since day one, that doesn't come to fruition on game day. So if changes or plans need to be made, obviously anything is possible.”

The Raiders undoubtedly have talented running backs and players at nearly every offensive position. However, poor offensive line play is negating the Raiders' talent at the offensive positions, making it difficult to move the ball or score points. They need to fix the offensive line as soon as possible to get White and the Raiders' offense going.
