Multi-vehicle accident leaves three injured in Sturgeon Bay

An 80-year-old woman from Luxembourg ran a red light Sunday evening and was taken to the hospital with two other people after a three-vehicle collision in Sturgeon Bay. Shortly after 6:30 p.m., officers arrived at the intersection of State Highway 42/57 and Duluth Avenue, where three heavily damaged vehicles were in the roadway. According to the accident report, a witness saw the SUV traveling south on STH 42/57 run a red light and collide with another SUV driven by a 69-year-old Sturgeon Bay man and his 73-year-old passenger. The force of the initial impact caused the Luxembourg woman's vehicle to strike a minivan traveling north on the highway. The driver of the third vehicle, a 56-year-old Green Bay woman, was uninjured. As a result of the crash, the Sturgeon Bay man had to be extricated from his vehicle before being taken to a Green Bay hospital for treatment of what were believed to be serious injuries. The woman from Luxembourg and the woman from Sturgeon Bay were taken to Door County Medical Center for what are believed to be serious injuries, while all three vehicles had to be towed from the intersection due to damage from the crash. A small section of the intersection was closed for about an hour for cleanup and did not reopen until around 7:30 p.m. The woman from Luxembourg was cited for ignoring traffic signals.
