Barricaded gunman who was shot by snipers faces 13 charges

FARMINGTON HILLS, MI – A 32-year-old Farmington Hills man faces 13 charges in connection with an alleged domestic violence incident that led to him barricading himself in an apartment and shooting at police officers, officials said.

According to a press release from Oakland County District Attorney Karen McDonald, the situation ended when the suspect was shot by a sniper.

At around 11:50 a.m. on Sunday, a child called 911 to report an ongoing domestic violence incident in the area of ​​Middlebelt and 12 Mile in Farmington Hills.

The defendant is accused of attacking a woman and threatening to kill her in front of her children.

When officers arrived, the victim had already fled the home. She told officers she had been attacked and her children were still in the house.

The officers attempted to enter the house and arrest the defendant. However, the defendant allegedly pointed a rifle at the officer. He later allegedly fired multiple shots at police officers, hitting police vehicles and neighboring houses.

The defendant is said to have barricaded himself in the apartment together with his two children.

The children finally managed to escape.

After some time, the defendant appeared at the front door with a rifle and was shot by a SWAT sniper. The officers immediately provided medical assistance.

The accused is in custody and is being guarded in a medical facility.

He is charged with three counts of assault with intent to murder, a crime punishable by life imprisonment. Other charges include possession of a weapon by an unauthorized person, two counts of assault with a dangerous weapon, six counts of second/additional serious weapons offense and domestic violence.

The defendant has not yet been charged.
