The Mexican sports world mourns the death of renowned journalist Andre Marin at the age of 52.

Marin had been battling a bacterial infection for several years and, after suffering from pneumonia and several hospital stays, received a double lung transplant earlier this month.

Marin's death sparked condolences across the sporting world, with nearly all Liga MX clubs posting condolences on their social media accounts on Monday when his death was announced.

The journalist's FOX Sports family aired a tribute to him – including a montage of some of his best moments from the past few years on the show “La Ultima Palabra” (The Last Word), hosted by Marin.

His colleagues at FOX shared their fondest memories of him, and one journalist – Fernando Cevallos – shed tears over the loss of the presenter.

A tweet from FOX's Marin tribute program read, in part: “This chair will always be yours, Andre Marin. Today #LUP (La Ultima Palabra) goes to heaven. Farewell, legend.”

Numerous other Mexican football stars as well as sports journalists and networkers also paid their last respects to him.

Long-time Mexican national team captain Rafa Marquez tweeted: “Sad and regretful news of the death of a great sports journalist, but also a good friend. Rest in peace dear Andre, my condolences to his entire family.”

Mexican national team goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa wrote on Twitter: “I deeply regret the passing of Andre Marin and offer my deepest condolences to his family and friends.”

“On behalf of TelevisaUnivision, we express our deepest condolences on the death of our dear colleague and close friend André Marín, an outstanding sports journalist,” said a statement from the broadcaster TUDN.

“His charisma, character and analytical skills quickly made him one of the most popular and recognizable faces in sports journalism in Mexico and around the world,” added TUDN.

FOX colleague Alberto Lati wrote: “Rest in peace, dear André Marín, after so long in which he fought to the limit and beyond. His wife Paty and his children deserve the warmest and most understanding embrace. More passionate than few others, an ambitious journalist and tireless polemicist, he leaves behind a great void.”

A TUDN colleague, David Faitelson, wrote: “He was a fighter… He fought until his last breath. For me, today is not the day a valuable reporter or a legendary journalist left us. A part of me went with André Marín. Rest in peace, André…”

Marin's colleague Luis Omar Tapia published an emotional post about his deceased friend.

“The news of the death of a friend and colleague, André Marín, deeply saddens me,” wrote Tapia. “I ask his entire family to accept my deepest condolences at this difficult time.”

“André believed in my work despite all the adversities and opened the doors for me in Mexico,” continued Tapia. “I will always be grateful to him. Rest in peace, André Marín.”

Throughout his career, Marin was known for his regular appearances on several television channels and for his column for the Mexican newspaper Excélsior.
