From Angelina Pannek to Gigi Birofio: “The Summer House of the Stars”: The biggest scandals from previous seasons

From Angelina Pannek to Gigi Birofio: “The Summer House of the Stars”: The biggest scandals from previous seasons

Forget about the rural idyll in North Rhine-Westphalia: “The Summer House of the Stars” has established itself as a riot show in which celebrity couples regularly clash. The ninth season, which starts on September 17, promises to be heated again.

This year, eight celebrity couples have once again found their way into “The Summer House of the Stars – Battle of the Celebrity Couples” and are fighting for the coveted title of “THE Celebrity Couple 2024” and for prize money of 50,000 euros. The recorded reality show will be broadcast by RTL every Tuesday from 8:15 p.m. starting September 17th (and a week earlier on RTL+).

The Cologne-based private broadcaster has already predicted persistent challenges, heated debates and many humorous scenes on Instagram. A security intervention took place, as RTL officially announced in June after the recordings. “There was a tense situation in the summer house, and security was called in as a precaution. However, this situation has been resolved.”

Some of the participants also reported escalations before the broadcast. Emma Fernlund (23) made it clear: “It's getting disrespectful, it's getting wild – not in a positive sense.” Soon, viewers will see “what disgusting people there are in this world.” Reality TV couple Sam Dylan (33) and Rafi Rachek (34) hinted that things are heating up again in the old farmhouse in Bocholt-Barlo. “What happened in the 'Summer House' last year was relaxed compared to this year,” said Rachek. His partner added: “Last year you thought it was crazy, but this season will top some others.” In 2023, two couples were already removed from the show after a physical altercation. Living together in a confined space always causes unrest and disputes between the couples in the show…

Exclusion of two pairs

The sixth episode of the eighth season in 2023 saw the climax of celebrity outbursts so far. The focus was on three participants: Valentina Doronina (24), her then fiancé Can Kaplan (28) and Gigi Birofio (25). The incident, in which production had to intervene, had far-reaching consequences. After the heated argument, all three, plus Birofio's girlfriend, had to leave the show. “We do not tolerate any physical violence in the 'Summer House'. Therefore, Gigi and his partner Dana had to leave the house,” RTL explained in a statement. In the hope of calming the tense atmosphere in the “Summer House” and out of responsibility to all couples involved, it was decided to remove Valentina and Can from the show as well. The reunion show also took place without the two couples.

Saliva attack and bullying

There had already been a violent incident in the “Summer House” in 2020. Kubilay Özdemir (born 1979), the then partner of Georgina Fleur (34), spat in the face of ex-Bachelor Andrej Mangold (37) after a dispute with his roommates, who then burst into tears of anger. But Mangold was not a clean slate either: He and his then girlfriend Jennifer Lange (30) constantly put Eva Benetatou (32) and her partner under pressure and bullied them relentlessly. His behavior in the “Summer House” had a significant impact on the ex-Bachelor's image. Furthermore, his relationship with Jennifer Lange also broke down.

Hot debates

From the first “Sommerhaus” episode in 2016, it was clear that things were not going well in the house. Angelina Pannek, then still Heger, caused a lot of trouble in the celebrity show with her then partner Rocco Stark (38) and laid the foundation for future seasons. The climax: she accused real estate agent Alexander Posth (46) and his wife Angelina of having a sham marriage. This led to him announcing legal action.

Two years later, Daniela Büchner (46) and her husband Jens (1969-2018), who died a few months later, also caused a lot of negative sentiment. The two made themselves unpopular with almost everyone else. Even after they were voted out, she didn't stop, the Mallorca emigrant raged in an outburst of anger: “I have never seen such a lying pack.”

In 2019, the now deceased Ballermann star Willi Herren (1975-2021) and ex-“Bachelorette” participant Johannes Haller (36) clashed violently. After insulting Herren, the musician even threatened to take out a restraining order against his fellow contestant. And in the sixth season in 2021, the on-off couple Mike Cees-Monballijn (37) and Michelle Monballijn (45) caused a lot of chaos. The other residents were shocked by his aggressive behavior and the way he treated his wife.
