Sergio Perez's father is in a “stable” condition after suffering a heart attack immediately following the Mexican driver's accident at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix.

Perez and Carlos Sainz were involved in a high-speed crash in the final laps of the race while battling for third place in Baku.

Fortunately, both drivers survived the accident uninjured.

However, in the accident, Antonio Perez Garibay suffered preinfraction, a condition associated with chest pain that can occur before a heart attack.

According to Mexican newspaper Medio Tiempo, Perez Garibay said: “Everything happened after the accident. The shock of the accident could have been the reason. They are already examining my heart to find out why I fainted.”

Perez Garibay's press office confirmed in an official statement that this medical shock had occurred.

“Perez Garibay was found unconscious in the bathroom of his home in Mexico City, where paramedics immediately attended to him,” the statement said.

“He was taken to a hospital in the capital, where he is currently under medical observation and is in a stable condition.”

“We thank you for your support and affection.”

Perez Garibay's racing organization, Scuderia Perez, also confirmed that the 65-year-old would remain in hospital for observation.

“Mr. Perez Garibay's condition is stable, but he remains in intensive care and is receiving constant medical monitoring, with treatment focusing primarily on his heart and other vital organs,” the statement said.

“The relevant specialists have stated that his condition will continue to be closely monitored.”

Given his father's hospitalization, Perez must now turn his attention to the Singapore GP on Sunday.

After Perez's late crash in Baku, he was still waiting for his first podium finish since the Chinese GP.

After Perez's late crash in Baku, he was still waiting for his first podium finish since the Chinese GP.

It is a crucial race for Perez as he looks to get back on the podium for the first time since the Chinese GP in April.

He also slipped to eighth place in the drivers’ standings with 143 points.

Red Bull will also rely on Perez to help them get back on their feet after falling behind McLaren in the Constructors' Championship.

Oscar Piastri's victory and Lando Norris' fourth place in Baku helped McLaren overtake Red Bull and maintain a 20-point lead with seven races to go.
